Mt. Fuji and Blue Lake from Satta Pass by Hasui Kawase stands as a luminous example of twentieth-century Japanese printmaking, radiating serenity through its depiction of Japan’s most iconic mountain. Created in 1935, and likely titled in Japanese as "薩埵峠の富士" (Satta-tōge no Fuji), this woodblock print immerses the viewer in the tranquil beauty of the landscape as seen from the historic Satta Pass. A masterwork of shin-hanga (“new prints”), the piece reflects Kawase’s deep appreciation for both tradition and innovation in Japanese art.

Offered here is a museum-quality fine art print, meticulously produced by The Unique Maps Co. Choose from acid-free archival paper or luxurious artist’s cotton canvas to suit your aesthetic and interior styling. Available in multiple sizes to elegantly fit any space, each print is customizable, with optional framing and bespoke personalization, ensuring your piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

Hasui Kawase (1883–1957) is revered as one of Japan’s most influential print artists, celebrated for revitalizing the landscape genre amid an era of shifting artistic tastes. A leading figure in the shin-hanga movement, Kawase was renowned for modernizing traditional themes and techniques while preserving exquisite craftsmanship. Listed as a Living National Treasure near the end of his career, his refined sensibility and distinctive palette continue to inspire collectors worldwide.

This particular artwork distills the majesty of Mount Fuji—revered for centuries in Japanese culture—framed by leafy trees and reflected in the path of the lustrous blue lake below. Sinuous white clouds drift across a crisp sky, with layers of green fore- and mid-ground giving depth and gentle contrast to the dominant celestial blue hues. Kawase’s deft use of color gradations, light, and shadow masterfully guide the eye through the scene, enveloping viewers in a scene at once tranquil and deeply evocative. Owning this print is to own a moment of contemplative harmony, a vision as timeless as Japan itself.

The beauty of Mt. Fuji and Blue Lake from Satta Pass makes it an exceptional gift, perfect for those who appreciate Japanese art, serene landscapes, or the subtle poetry of color. It will bring distinction as a present for special occasions such as Christmas, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, weddings, anniversaries, housewarmings, or simply as a treasured addition to your own collection.
