Mt Fuji. Morning at Hirano, Lake Yamanaka by Hasui Kawase is a captivating woodblock print that exemplifies the tranquil beauty of the Japanese landscape. Created in 1935, this serene composition transports the viewer to the quiet morning banks of Lake Yamanaka, where the iconic Mount Fuji rises, veiled in soft morning mists. Hasui Kawase, one of Japan's most celebrated shin-hanga (new prints) artists, produced numerous evocative images capturing the changing seasons and atmospheric moods of his homeland.

This print is offered as a fine art reproduction, meticulously printed on your choice of acid-free archival paper or artist’s cotton canvas. It is available in a range of sizes, and a variety of framing and personalized options are made available by The Unique Maps Co. Every detail, from the subtle colour gradations to delicate linework, maintains the integrity of Hasui’s original vision, making it a stunning addition to any home.

Hasui Kawase (1883–1957) is renowned for his extensive contribution to the revival of traditional Japanese woodblock printing in the early 20th century. A master of landscape, Hasui was designated as a Living National Treasure for his lifelong devotion to the shin-hanga movement. His works are instantly recognizable for their lyrical sense of solitude, technical mastery, and affectionate portrayal of rural Japan.

This particular work, most likely titled 「山中湖平野の朝」(Yamanakako Hirano no Asa) in Japanese, is notable for its ethereal depiction of the cherished Mount Fuji, beautifully mirrored in the still waters of Lake Yamanaka at dawn. The print's delicate palette of white and ice-blue evokes the chilly clarity of an early morning, while touches of pale pink hint at the warming sunlight gently illuminating the landscape. Quintessential Japanese sensibilities radiate throughout the scene—silence, space, and fleeting beauty converge harmoniously, reflecting both natural wonder and profound cultural reverence.

Hasui’s masterful technique is evident in the refined gradients of colour and atmospheric handling of mist and light. Wisps of cloud sweep softly across the horizon and variations in painterly blue hues lend depth to sky and water alike, underscoring a serene transition from night to day. Gentle blushes of pink and snow-soft whites across Mount Fuji’s peak confirm both the arrival of spring and Hasui’s skill in subtly conveying emotion through the landscape. Hang this print to bring a peaceful, meditative energy to your environment—a perennial reminder of nature’s quiet majesty and the artistry of Hasui Kawase.

This fine art print is a thoughtful and elegant gift for lovers of Japanese art and culture. Perfect for Christmas, birthdays, housewarming occasions, or as a symbol of good fortune and tranquility, it will be cherished for years to come.
